Good communications is the lifeblood of organisations and companies. Good communications achieve results quicker through collaboration. Good communications allow more effective navigation through tense discussions, open doors to business opportunities that may otherwise have been closed, develop strong customer relationships and overcome resistance. Good personal and professional interpersonal skills are quite simply essential for managers today.

To acquire/improve communications skills which are fundamental in building collaborative relationships with customer and staff
To learn how to actively listen and the powerful effect on others
To develop the skill of communicating and receiving feedback
To gain the confidence in choosing the most appropriate and relevant communications style for you

Course Description & Structure
The one-day training course will look at the world of interpersonal communications from the small business perspective. The approach will be practical in nature, building participants’ confidence in developing their own individual communications style, building personal credibility and becoming more successful in management.

The sessions will be highly participative and learning by doing; the programme is divided equally into formal presentation, group work and discussion. Models and templates will be provided which reflect international best practice.

Barriers to effective communications
Basic communications skills – building rapport, listening & questioning, etc
How to use ‘matching’ to create empathy, essential to building customer relationships
Understanding and using gestures, including assertive body language
Sound understanding of effective communications skills
Ability to use active listening to avoid common misunderstandings
Learn how to initiate and respond to various forms of communications
Learn how to handle situations in a flexible, genuine and self-confident way to achieve the results you want

Trainer Profile
Marie Lord established Lord & Associates (L&A) in 2003 to focus on development, communications and marketing issues in private and public sector organisations. Marie works with business managers, executives and teams to help them discover their core strengths, maximising potential and positively impacting on organisational performance. She provides coaching, training and consultancy support to enterprises in a wide range of sectors.

Marie is a graduate member of the Marketing Institute of Ireland (MII), a member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC), the Institute of Business Analysists and Consultants (IBAC) and has over 20 years experience in the international corporate sector and as an independent marketing consultant and professional coach. She is a qualified professional coach, a qualifed FÁS trainer, a Skillnet facilitator and has extensive experience in coaching and personal development.

As Marketing Manager with Aer Lingus Cargo from 1996 - 2000, Marie worked as part of the senior management team, which transformed the division from an operations led organisation to a marketing led one, placing the customer at the centre of the organisation; the Division doubled its turnover during this time. She has also held the positions of Communications Manager and New Product Development Specialist in Aer Lingus plc. Marie has been involved with the Marketing Institute of Ireland (MII) for several years and has served on and chaired several committees. She is on the panel of professional coaches on the Think2Act seminars at the National College of Ireland.

Her client list includes the National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO), Engineers Ireland (formerly The Institute of Engineers of Ireland), Clonmel Healthcare, Associated Pharmaceutical Manufacturers of Ireland (APMI), Dublin City Enterprise Board amongst others.
